Hearne Scientific Software is now distributing the specialised Natural Resources Data Management system ESDAT.

Earth-Science Data Manager (ESDAT) provides data management, analysis, reporting and quality assurance procedures for the environmental and geological professions.

Management of environmental data is often a challenge for those trained in scientific or engineering disciplines. Current industry practices typically rely on an individuals skills in Microsoft Excel or Access, which can be time consuming and error-prone.

ESDAT is a comprehensive and easy to use data management, analysis and reporting system applicable to:

  • Contaminated / Industrial Site Management
  • Landfill Data Management
  • Mine-site Environmental Data Management
  • Environmental and Natural Resources Data Management

ESDAT Version 3 is now available. A major improvement in version 3 is the ability to use ESDAT to access data over the internet. This means that consultants and clients can both analyse the same data through ESDAT. Users will need to have ESDAT installed as the functionality will not be available through a web browser alone. Speed for online access is faster than some of the larger databases currently based in Access as the data is hosted in a Microsoft SQL Server database.

In addition to offering internet accessibility, the following functionality improvements have been made for version 3:

  • Internal mapping is improved so that users can toggle results to show location ID, results, or gradient coloring of points or polygons. The display is in a format immediately suitable for presentation or reports.
  • Chemistry result tables can be produced in multiple orientations and formats, with guideline exceedances automatically indicated.
  • Laboratory and field QA summaries and non-conformance tables are now output to an electronic report which can be navigated by hyperlinks in either Excel or Explorer.
  • A Factual Report summarising all data in the database or over a given date range is automatically produced.  The report includes maps, graphs, tables, and statistical analysis to identify trends.
  • Exports of chemistry data to ArcGIS 9 can now manipulate monitoring results to a format suitable for immediate map production (ie stacked labels), or supports a live link to the database.  MapInfo exports now export to the MIF format.
  • gINT and WinLog links have been improved for better integration of geological logging.

ESDAT is available as an off-the-shelf System, or can be customised to meet individual requirements.
