Desktop Engineering Product of the Year
31 March, 2006
The readers of Desktop Engineering (DE) Magazine have selected Mathcad 13 as the 2005 Readers' Choice Product of the Year, choosing the world's most widely used calculation software from a field of 12 candidates and hundreds of products covered every year.
Each of the 12 finalists was a Readers' Choice monthly winner during the year and was included on an electronic ballot published on DE's website, deskeng.com, through an e-mail blast, and in the magazine's e-newsletter, DE Newslink. Votes were cast from February 14 through March 1.
“DE covers hundreds if not thousands of new products every year in all of our electronic and hard-copy forms. Being elected as Product of the Year by DE's all-engineer readership is the highest vote of confidence any development team can hope for. On behalf of the DE staff and the 63,000 subscribers of DE, I congratulate Mathsoft for Mathcad 13, the DE Readers' Choice as Product of the Year 2005.” - Anthony J. Lockwood, Editorial Director, Desktop Engineering.
Mathcad 13 was the magazine's Readers' Choice Product of the Month in November 2005, shortly after the software's release. Mathcad 13 enables engineers to document and capture their calculations, analyses, and results as they create them. This process fosters the profitable reuse of enterprise engineering information for knowledge management, compliance auditing, oversight, publishing, and collaboration throughout the entire product development and engineering project management process. The result is significant savings in custom application development time and effort.
Mathcad's signature live, interactive whiteboard interface, which avoids the complexities of cryptic spreadsheets and proprietary programming languages, has made it the most widely used engineering calculation tool on the market. Mathcad 13 builds on enhancements first offered in version Mathcad 12, such as XML and .NET support, and introduced powerful program debugging capabilities, enhanced 2D plot graphics, a new AutoSave feature, and new error messages that pinpoint mathematical errors. For the first time it supported nonlinear units such as Fahrenheit, Celsius, and decibels, and enabled customers to create custom units. A new class of "provenance" capabilities began helping organisations determine conclusively the source of a particular calculation.
“Mathsoft is honored to receive this acknowledgement from the readers of Desktop Engineering. Our users and the demanding engineers who read Desktop Engineering see the benefits of products like Mathcad that free them to innovate by powering the management of their critical engineering calculations. We look forward to continuing to earn the high regard of DE's vast readership as well as that of every engineer or engineering student who uses a Mathsoft product.” - Mike Cassettari, Vice President of Marketing, Mathsoft.
Mathcad is the choice of more than 1.8 million engineers and over 5,000 managed installations in more than 50 countries around the world, including users at BAE Systems, Boeing, DuPont, Honeywell, Lockheed Martin and Universal Studios.
“Mathcad has proved to be an essential tool in my practice. The staff at Hearne have been most helpful in keeping the software running.” - Laurence, Hudson Environ.
Other candidates for the 2005 Readers' Choice Product of the Year Award were: Electronics Workbench Corp., CD-adapco, Invention Machine Corp., Solidscape, Inc., Blue Ridge Numerics, TekSoft, Inc., SolidWorks Corporation, PDE Solutions, COMSOL, Maplesoft, and Noran Engineering, Inc./MatWeb.
